Global MLRO

About Aspora

People on the move deserve a bank that moves with them. Since 2022, Aspora has been building a borderless financial operating system that makes money as mobile and transparent as its users. Backed by influential venture capitalists like Sequoia Capital, Greylock Partners, Hummingbird Ventures, Y Combinator & Global Founders Capital. We're a team of 150+ across India, the UK, the UAE, EU and the US, working with extreme ownership, radical candour, and an obsession with customer impact. We celebrate builders who question assumptions, ship fast, and turn regulatory complexity into elegant solutions. If you’re driven to redefine what global banking can be, we’d love to build the future with you. About the Role People build lives across borders, and Aspora moves their money with them, starting with Indians abroad. Every new corridor and product surface carries money laundering risk. This role exists to turn that risk into an advantage: one global AML policy embedded in products and operations, so sound decisions happen by design instead of case-by-case escalation. As Global MLRO, you will lead our global fincrime team's compliance backbone, working closely with our Head of Fincrime, and reporting to our COO. You will decide where the business can move fast and where it must hold the line. You will own the judgement calls that shape how Aspora scales into new markets.

Who You Are You’re not someone who sees AML as a function that sits behind the business. You see it as part of how a great financial product gets built. You’ve navigated AML and financial crime across payments, remittance, banking or fintech, ideally across multiple markets. You know the regulations inside out — but more importantly, you know how to turn them into decisions that work in the real world. You turn complexity into clarity. You can take a regulatory requirement and turn it into a customer journey, a product control, or a decision framework that teams can actually use.

You think globally. You’ve shaped AML standards across multiple markets and know how to build consistency without pretending every market works the same way.

You build, not just maintain. You’ve built strong AML frameworks, automated controls or high-performing teams — or taken on a genuinely difficult financial crime problem and solved it.

You’ve been tested. You’ve led through a serious incident, regulatory challenge or remediation, made difficult calls under pressure, and stayed accountable until the job was done.

You have strong judgement. You know when to move fast, when to push back, and when a risk genuinely needs escalation.

You raise the bar around you. You don’t want every decision to depend on you. You build teams, playbooks and systems that make everyone better at managing risk.

You have high ownership. You’re self-critical, decisive and comfortable saying “I got that wrong” — then fixing it quickly.

Most importantly, you’re excited by the opportunity to build something that doesn’t exist yet. You want to help define what practical, intelligent global AML looks like — not inherit a rulebook and keep it running.

What You'll Own This is a role with a genuinely global mandate. You’ll have the autonomy to shape how Aspora manages financial crime risk as we enter new markets, launch new products and scale rapidly. Set the global AML standard. Build one practical approach across markets and products, so good risk decisions happen by design rather than through constant escalation.

Make risk decisions visible. Create frameworks that make trade-offs clear — what the options are, who owns the decision, and what would trigger a rethink.

Be the voice of AML with regulators. Own Aspora’s regulatory relationships and lead the business through independent audits and regulatory scrutiny.

Turn judgement into leverage. Build the playbooks, training and decision frameworks that allow teams to confidently handle the calls that would otherwise land on your desk.

Stay ahead of the threats. Identify emerging financial crime patterns and evolve our controls before they become problems — protecting customers without adding friction for the sake of it.

Build the team. Lead, develop and grow a global Fincrime team capable of operating at the pace and scale Aspora is heading towards.

Shape the business. Partner directly with Product, Engineering, Operations and leadership to make financial crime controls part of the product — not something bolted on afterwards.

This is a chance to take ownership of a function that will directly influence where Aspora can go, how quickly we can get there, and how confidently we can scale.
