Senior Engineering Team Lead

We’re reinventing payments. In less than four years, Dojo disrupted the market to become the largest and most loved acquirer in the UK. Our payments infrastructure, purpose-built for in-person commerce, is game changing.

Now, over 150,000 customers across four countries choose to transact billions with us every year. But we’re just getting started.

Our people are the driving force behind our success. They are our greatest investment and our ultimate competitive advantage. We hire exceptional people and give them the autonomy, trust, and ownership to thrive. The results take care of themselves.

The Role

AI Labs is a place for innovation, impact and opportunity. You’ll be creating new products & utilising tooling across the generative AI space, working with a team of talented graduates to ideate, co-create and operate full-stack solutions across a broad range of domain areas, both internal and external. Each service and API should be well orchestrated, instrumented and supported allowing them to become part of the wider Dojo ecosystem, ultimately enabling the rest of Dojo to seamlessly integrate these solutions into their work in a safe and understandable way.

We are looking for an Engineering Team Lead to own a number of individual workstreams within the MicroPOS project, and provide support & mentorship to the people in their team. They will produce high-quality software that solves real-world problems in secure, innovative and supportable ways. The environment will be dynamic and often exploratory, so a desire to drive results in periods of uncertainty will be required. The role is focused around leading teams of early career individuals, so mentorship, support and guidance will be key attributes in ensuring the success of both the role and the team, with a view to build them into the leaders of tomorrow.

Who we are looking for...

We are looking for someone who takes pride & ownership in what they build, being able to voice their opinion and share their expertise, but also listen and make the correct decision. They shouldn’t be afraid to celebrate their successes, admit their mistakes and turn to others for help, maintaining a sense of honesty and humility. They should be looking to improve each day, caring about the tech, architecture, and people they interact with, understanding both the small details and the big picture in everything we do. Finally, they should be able to coach, mentor, and inspire those around them, embedding excellence, a sense of safety, and a desire to succeed in their teams, ensuring these values are adhered to at all levels.

What you will do...

Lead system architecture and design, ensuring solutions are robust, maintainable, and built to scale effectively.

Own the software delivery lifecycle, championing engineering best practices, thorough code reviews, and automated CI/CD pipelines.

Mentor, support, and develop engineers within your team, fostering an inclusive environment where future leaders thrive.

Partner with product, tech management, and key stakeholders to deliver business objectives with predictability and consistency.

Drive proof-of-concept (PoC) initiatives to explore emerging tools and agentic frameworks, using data to inform future architectural decisions.

Strategically align technical efforts with the product roadmap, proactively identifying opportunities to innovate and optimize system performance.

What you will bring...

Demonstrated leadership experience managing people, fostering individual growth, and acting as an inclusive culture ambassador.

Strong technical background in senior software engineering across client-side and server-side technologies, with openness across languages (such as Python, .NET, or Java).

Experience with frontend technologies (such as React and TypeScript) and modern agile practices, including code reviews and CI/CD pipelines.

Solid knowledge of microservices architecture, event-driven systems, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure (ideally GCP).

Experience with or strong interest in agentic frameworks, such as Google’s ADK, Akka, or LangGraph.

Strong communication skills with a proactive, resourceful mindset to bridge technical and business needs across diverse stakeholders.

Dojo home and away

We believe our best work happens when we collaborate in-person. These “together days” foster communication, drive innovation and spark our brightest ideas.

That's why we have an office-first culture. This means working from the office 4+ days per week.

With offices across Europe, we know a thing or two about staying dynamic. Need deep focus? Head to a quiet zone. Big ideas? Collaboration spaces have you covered. Just here for a catch-up? Our social hubs make it easy. Do work that counts, in spaces made for you.

Question: what’s curious, relentless, and customer obsessed?

If you’re keen to know the answer, you’re a third of the way to meeting our Dojo values.

If the following speak to you, let’s talk:

You’re curious. You have a real desire to learn and create.

You’re relentless. You keep going even when it’s easier not to.

You’re customer-obsessed. You know how important customers are to what you do.
