The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is one of nine research councils forming part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), responsible for supporting and funding world-class research and national facilities in areas including astronomy, particle physics, nuclear physics, space science, and computational science. It operates major research campuses at Harwell and Daresbury, as well as facilities internationally. STFC was established in 2007 following the merger of the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council and elements of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
